As a child, Yves Couslan, one of the founders of diptyque, spent his summers in Do Son, a town in Halong Bay, where the sea breeze carried the heady, spicy scent of tuberose. Do Son has the persistence and intensity of memories of childhood in Indochina, fully associated with these luxurious flowers. In perfumed water, tuberose comes to the fore more intensely than in eau de toilette concentration. Its fragrance recalls moments of twilight when white flowers stand out in the dim light of a wooden pagoda. At the market in Hai Phong, tuberoses are wrapped, along with jasmine and ylang ylang, in large canna leaves to be used as divine offerings.
